What to look for
It has to book against one calendar, not a copy of one
The failure that costs salons money is a double booking, and it comes from software that keeps its own list of appointments and syncs it to the salon’s calendar every few minutes. Ask what happens when two people book the same slot in the same second. The answer should be that the database refuses the second one, not that somebody notices later.
Service times are three numbers, not one
A tint is fifteen minutes of work, thirty-five minutes of processing and twenty minutes of finishing. Booking software that models a service as one seventy-minute block cannot let a stylist start somebody else during the processing, and that is the single biggest capacity difference between a busy column and an empty one.

Deposits are a policy, not a switch
Charging every client a deposit costs bookings. Charging none costs no-shows. The useful setting is per service: a balayage takes a deposit and a fifteen-minute fringe trim does not. Check the software can hold that distinction, and that the deposit reaches the salon’s own account rather than sitting with the platform until a payout date.
Ask who owns the client
A marketplace brings you a client and keeps their contact details, their booking history and the right to advertise a salon down the road to them. Software you run under your own name does not. This is the difference that matters most in three years and least on the day you sign up, which is exactly why it is worth deciding early.
Reminders are the cheapest thing you will ever switch on
A reminder the day before, on a channel the client actually reads, is the lowest-effort reduction in missed appointments available to a salon. Check which channels are included rather than billed per message, and whether the client can reschedule from the reminder itself instead of having to call during opening hours.
