In short
A salon membership is a recurring monthly payment that entitles a client to something — a set number of visits, a discount, or included services — applied automatically when they check out. A package is the other shape: paid once, drawn down visit by visit. Both convert irregular custom into predictable revenue, which is why they matter to a salon more than a discount ever does.

What to look for
Price it against the visit rhythm you actually have
A membership priced below what your regulars already spend converts your best clients into a discount. Look at what a typical member of the target group spends across a year first, and only then decide what the plan includes.
It has to apply itself at checkout
If the person at the counter has to remember that this client is on a plan and apply it by hand, it will be missed, and the client will notice before you do. The entitlement should be attached to the client and applied to the bill without anybody thinking about it.
Packages need a visible balance
A course of six bought in January is a conversation in April about how many are left. Both sides should be able to see the remaining balance, from the salon’s screen and from the client’s app.
Decide what happens when they stop paying
A failed monthly payment is ordinary, not fraud. Work out in advance what the client keeps, how long the grace period runs and who gets told, and make sure the software does the same thing.

- Card payments through Stripe, taken online at booking as a deposit or in the salon at checkout, settled to the salon’s own account.
